Chin Hing Sang

bassoon

  Chin Hing Sang was born in Hong Kong. He graduated at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989. From 1990 to 1995 he studied at the Vienna State Academy of Music under Prof. Dietmar Zeman. Besides, he also participated in Bassoon masterclasses held by Valerie Popov, William Waterhouse, Karl Ohlberger and John Orford; as well as the masterclass in Bassoon reed making by Andreas Weigmann, the most famous Bassoon reed maker in Germany.

  In Vienna he was granted a scholarship by the Ziehrer-Stiftung. In 1993 and 1994 he was bassoonist in the Junge Oper Austria and Totales Theater Wien respectively. Since 1995 he is principal Bassoon of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. 1997/98 he was granted a scholarship by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Music and Dance Fund. In June 1998 he obtained the degree of Master of Arts with unanimous distinction at the Vienna State Academy of Music, and received an honorary prize from the Austrian Ministry of Education. He is one of the founding members of “Les Six” and is also the overseas consultant of Macao Youth Orchestra. He has given master classes in Macao and Guangzhou Conservatory.

  Being one of the leading bassoonists in Hong Kong, he has been very active in the concert halls of Hong Kong as well as in Macao, Singapore, Japan, USA, France, Poland, Lithuania and Austria. He has appeared as soloist with Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He has now resumed his position in Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and currently teaching at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
